The first remembrance of the existence and creation of an oasis around the Kabul River dates to the two thousand years B.C . in the ancient Indian hymns (anthem) of Rigivida. Based on the writings of Avista , in the earliest times, this city was called Vigarute. In the Rigvida Songs (I thousand years BC) the region of Kabul River was called Kabuha or Kabukha. It can be probably confirmed that Kabul originated 3500 years ago. Some references to Kabul was made by Alexander the Great of Macedonian in 328 BC. The ancient Greek geographer and historian Starbone of the 1st century BC called this city Ortaspana which means " Highland Region". Another ancient Greek geographer Beltemous in the second half of 2nd century BC referred to the city as Kaboura and he called its residents Bolitio. According to Gurgasht opinion, the exact name this city's inhabitants at that time was Kabolitoi which has been confirmed by Kohzad, a modern time historian of Afghanistan, in his many researches. In some sources, the city was called Carura.
From the descriptions of historians, the large and strong fortress of Kabul belongs to the end of third century. The village and colony of Kabul, during the dynasty of Koshan in the II century located in the valley Loghar within the region of Chakari. During the II and IV century, this city relocated many times in a northwest direction from the Chakari: Shiwaki, Khord-Kabul, valley Takht-e Shah Khanborak. The last location of Kabul was the fortress of Bala-Hissar in the summit of Shirdarwaza and Assamahee mountains. Subsequently, the city had been developed northwest of the fortress Bala-Hissar and Kharabad on the left bank of the Kabul River.
